What was your journey like to get to where you are in your career?

There was a lot of trying to make myself seen and respected in white spaces. I even took pay cuts to be in the industry of my desire. Finally with hard work and speaking up for myself, I finally have my dream job.

What was one of the most challenging lessons that you learned during your process?

Sometimes your work doesn't speak for itself or is not enough when you're a Black female in a white space. It's important to not only advocate for yourself but find allies that will also advocate for you.

What was the most valuable lesson you learned during your process?

Networking and making genuine connections is key in your professional growth.

What was your biggest obstacle?

Getting the salary and title of my worth

When did you realize you were going in the right direction, professionally?

Once I started enjoying the work I was doing and it didn't actually feel like work, I knew I was in the right field.

What was a pivotal moment in your career that led you to where you are now?

In 2019, I started the first Black Employee Resource Group at my company.

How did you overcome doubt during your career journey/transitions?

I did a lot of praying. I made a promise to myself to never be unhappy with the work i'm doing again, no matter how much it paid. My happiness was worth more than a paycheck and I was determined to find a purposeful position.

For those who may be experiencing imposter syndrome, what advice would you give that has helped you?

Imposter syndrome is real! I always remind myself that the other side of fear, is success. If you're feeling scared, it means you're supposed to be doing it. Remember exactly who you are and what you bring to the table.
