6 Ways To Stay Motivated While Working From Home

Many of us are experiencing a drastic transition from our daily routines of commuting to and from work, having collaborative conference meetings, and interactive brainstorms. Due to COVID-19, we have transitioned to working remotely, which has created a shift in the work life dynamic that we’ve grown accustomed to.

Content production is being released rapidly, many people are searching for employment, and we’re seeking ways to stay positive and productive throughout this transition. We are all in this together, which is why we wanted to share 6 activities and habits that the Jopwell team has been practicing in order to stay motivated while working from home.

1. Create A Daily Or Weekly Schedule And Stick To It

Especially in times like this, it’s important to create a schedule that benefits you and helps you maintain some sort of semblance of comfort. Research shows that 40% of our daily actions are powered by habits–the unconscious actions and routines we’ve developed over time.

2. Work On Your Resume

There are still employers that are currently hiring during the COVID-19 pandemic, so now is the perfect time to spruce up your resume, make some updates, and triple check that there are no grammatical errors in it. We are constantly developing new skills so it’s important to keep track and have an up to date resume on hand.

3. Learn A New Skill With A Friend, Relative, or Colleague

We all need accountability partners, especially when it comes to activities or new ventures. Learning a new skill can be challenging, but oftentimes it’s easier to learn new things with someone else. Studies show that people typically have faster comprehension when learning new things in groups rather than alone.

4. Practice Daily Meditation and Mindfulness

Monday Meditation has become a new tradition with the Jopwell team. Research shows that mindfulness meditation decreases activity in the default mode network (DMN), the brain network responsible for mind-wandering and self-referential thoughts—a.k.a., “monkey mind.” This Monday, we’re hosting another meditation class with our friend, Yemmie Tekletsadik—where we will reset with a guided meditation and light stretching. 5. Create Your Ideal Office Space

Creating a space where you can feel comfortable helps you focus more effectively on your own. For some of us, it’s been a helpful practice to create at-home work desks to stay productive. Play some calming instrumentals or decorate your desk or table with items you’d have if you were in an office setting.

6. Make Sure You Are Actually Disconnecting And Taking Breaks

Whether you are working remotely with your company, picking up as many freelance projects as possible, or job searching, we want to make sure that you are maintaining a healthy work life balance and giving yourself time to rest! Plug in, but make sure to disconnect once you’ve completed your tasks, take lunch, do 15-minute stretches—burnout is real whether you are in an office or working from home.
